Toronto Argonauts Bring Back a Familiar Face

Despite the team’s unsettled ownership issues, the Toronto Argonauts have hired themselves a new head coach. Jim Barker will return to the place he left over a decade ago, and return to coaching for the first time in seven years.

Barker has spent the last several seasons as the General Manager of the Calgary Stampeders, and played an important role in putting together a franchise that has made the playoffs every year he has been in the front office.

Ironically, Barker had been fired from the Argos after just one season, compiling a 9-9 record in 1999. Unfortunately for Barker the team changed ownership hands, and the new front office wanted to go in a new direction.

Now after two straight years of abysmal records, the team who is currently looking for yet another new owner has brought the veteran back.

Barker honed his coaching craft in the United States, serving as an assistant for three seasons at San Francisco State, before eventually moving to New Mexico State for two years, and coaching for one season as an assistant for the Nevada Wolfpack. In his last gig in the states, Barker was not only an assistant football coach at tiny Pomona-Pitzer, but he served as the school’s head baseball coach.
