CFL: Toronto Argonauts Training Camp already has a QB Controversy
The Toronto Argonauts training camp has opened and there was an all out quarterback battle from day one. Five quarterbacks are vying for the three quarterback spots on the Argonaut roster. Dalton Bell, Danny Brannagan, Ken Dorsey, Gibran Hamdan and Cleo Lemon are all working to make the team.
Ken Dorsey and Cleo Lemon have both had a little more than a cup of coffee in the NFL, while the other three candidates are trying to earn their way on the Toronto roster with no NFL background.
Ken Dorsey, football betting favorite, signed with Toronto on May 26th and is expected to be a back up since he was out of football in 2009. Dorsey’s lackluster NFL career does not give him much clout in the impending arms race. The other quarterback with NFL experience is Cleo Lemon. Lemon also had an NFL career that was nominal at best.
Dalton Bell is the most experienced CFL quarterback but that is not saying much. Bell is a 27 year old, out of West Texas A&M and could slide into the third quarterback position. Danny Brannagan is a Canadian born quarterback that was signed by Toronto to a three year contract after an impressive tryout in March.
The fifth quarterback in this quarterback free for all just stepped down days ago unexpectedly. Gibran Hamdan announced his sudden retirement on June 4th and will not be involved in this quarterback scrap. This will make Dalton Bell the favorite to start for Toronto on opening day.
